I've been going to the gym and need a sports bra. I deceided to measure myself.
Now I knew I was wearing the wrong size (if I'm honest), but my measurements ( following a variety of internet advice) are totally out of range to what I'm wearing and I think I've gone wrong somewhere.
Does anyone genuinely have an idea about how to measure for a bra size.

I've tried this and the band size comes out loads biggger than what I'm wearingdosen't feel I've been wearing a size that small.

Have you tried going to a specialist shop and asking to be measured? They are usually very obliging and it's amazing what size they say you are - my Mum (75+) was wearing 36C for years and was going to get a 38 as she thought she needed a bigger size - she refused underwired bras as she didn't find them comfortable - she left the shop with a size 34F (I think) and underwired, and she says it's the best bra she's ever had.
I'm going there next week - to see if they can make mole hills out of my gnat bites! :rotfl::j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

Best fitting bras I have ever worn are the size Bravissimo measured me as. Totally different size to what I had been wearing for years, but now that I am buying the correct size bras they are so comfortable.0

it's very hard to measure yourself as your arms are at the wrong angle - if you are going to measure yourself though measure under the bust as tight as you possibly can (don't forget bras are made of elastic tape measures aren't) then add 4" for and even number and 5" for an odd and you will have a rough idea of your back size - bear in mind though that different manufacturers and even different styles within the same brand can vary a lot. When measuring the cup size unless you're very firm it's a good idea to measure your cup size with some support as you want your bra to give you some lift and seperate
Once you have the measurements these are a rough guide and not your size - try on several bras in the size you think you are and a size either side (take loads in to the changing room or do a mass order on Figleaves
) and see how they fit - you should lift your boobs into the bra (or lift them up and move them around once the bra is on) so that you get the best fit.
Try to buy bras that fit on the middle hook so that at times when you're holding more fluid you can loosen it one and as the elastic stretches you can tighten it one so that the bra will last you for longer - even then bras should be replaced every couple of years (elastic only lasts for so long...)
It's quite likely that you've been wearing the wrong size for years btw but it's also likely that you're not measuring accurately. The best thing to do is to get measured especially if you're above a B cup. Your boobs are a long term asset and need good support especially during exercise.0 -
I'll certainly go into a local boutique and try loadsa sizes on. Sales assistants will think I'm bra crazy lol.
It is weird to think how many ladies must be walking around with the wrong bra size.0 -
i second the bravissimo recommendation - they can generally guess it right just by looking! avoid somewhere like marks and spencers at all costs - but i think other department stores like john lewis and hoseu of fraser are much better:happyhear0

it's a wonder you hadn't squashed them to death lol.
I might try a local wedding shop, I think they take bra measurements.0 -
I went to Debenhams recently and had a lovely lady help me. The last time I went I knew the bra fitter, a slip of a girl who's been one of our volunteers at work, and I couldn't quite cope with that! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0
