What's happening to my tomatoes?
Hello!
My poor little tomato plants aren't looking too well..
I've grown them from seed as I do every year, exactly the same way, and they now vary in height from 2.5" to 4", but the leaves are going white from the centre out, they then become transluscent, and unfortunately I've already lost three plants.. what could it be? I've not done anything different this year, is it something I can change? Or shall I just chuck them now and start again?
Many thanks!

I was just wondering the same thing. This has happened to some of mine too. They grew really well to begin with then the leaves just went white and the died . I was pleased I had saved some seeds so just throw them away and have started again hope they grow this time.Stash Busting Challenge 2016 6/520

I suggest trying to repot them in a different brand of compost, it looks like bad/missing nutrients to me. Meantime sow some more but not in the suspect compost.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I've re-planted a few seeds I had left, like you I'm glad I saved some! Considering buying some new/different ones though, as perhaps it's the seeds..?
Tomato shortage this year if not!!0 -

Thanks-I'll try that!I've used Westland Multi Purpose as per usual, but perhaps it's just not up to scratch this year!
Fingers crossed!0 -
I always use Humax, dearer but worth it. I've tried other brands but none match it. I do mix osmocote with all compost.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I'll give Humax a go I think-I'm sure the local garden centre sell it..! Thank you so much!!0

The best compost I have found is from Cherry Lane Garden Centre, they have branches across the UK, mostly in the SE.
They do compost in a blue bag 6 (sometimes 5) for £10 and it is fantastic. Beautiful rich dark colour.0 -
No help what so ever, but I feel your pain. I have seedlings which might be just about an inch high with one very sickly looking one pri-icked out.
I've re-sowed once already and the first lot was started the same week this year as previous years. I know I've kept diaries.
Sorry to say, but I am glad its not just me

I have some peppers which I have grown from seed which are about 4 inches high they had been in the propagator but as they were getting too big and the weather was good I put them into my blow away greenhouse in the garden, after a couple of hot days I noticed that some of the the leaves had white spots which grew into translucent patches. Now I don't know if this was because they got overheated, if the atmosphere under cover was too humid or if the sun had got onto the leaves when they had water droplets on and had burnt them. I have tomatoes in the same location and they haven't suffered at all. On hot days I have taken to giving them more ventilation to cut down on the humidity and at night or on cooler days I have brought them indoors.0

I had mine out on sunny days but brought them in before evening set in-and yep, my peppers and chillis look to be going the same way.. Like you I wondered if it was water but I water them in the am well before moving them out..
It's a mystery
