I've been with Scottish power for years but when my duel fuel bills went up I knew I needed to move and quickly but they have said I would have to pay a £50 exit fee ?? I can't afford this and don't know what to do. I'm on their most expensive standard tariff and they won't even change me to their fixed rate 2015 deal. Please can anyone help.

If there is an exit fee you are likely not to be on their standard tariff. What is the name of your tariff?0

For there to be an exit fee you must be on some sort of deal.
Most of the time the reason it goes up is because we weren't paying enough by DD to start with and the meter readings adjust to suit, usually upwards.
You need to find out what plan your on then compare from there and see if it's worth paying the exit fee or waiting it out until the exit fee lapses.0 -

This would be better in the Energy section .
But as said standard tariff does not have exit fees .0 -
Thank you all very much for your replies but I have checked and read and reread the email they sent me and it definitely says I have to pay the £50 exit fee. Im on their standard rate and im not on any deals because the deal I was on ran out in 2012. So I have no idea what to do now because I sent them 3 emails but they won't reply to me.0

If you are certain that you are on a standard deal and that they have told you there is an exit fee I would suggest that you refer them to this page on their website
http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/campaigns/standardproduct/
and this bit in particular:
CANCELLATION CHARGE- No cancellation charges
- You can end the agreement at any time by taking one of our Offers or by switching supplier

Then speak to a different advisor, there is no exit fee for the standard tariff.0

Thank you all for your support. UPDATE is that I have renegotiated a deal with Scottish power and I am now on a fixed deal until next July 2015 and my bill has gone down to £115 per month and is such a relief. So again thank you all so much for your support. Now all I need is a new roof and new boiler lol.0

Well done, I'm just moving to that deal myself and I think it's a reasonable choice, and certainly a lot better than what you were paying before. Don't forget to look at another switch when July 2015 comes round (or earlier if there are better deals to be had, given that there are no exit fees on this one).0
