Changing a Wing Mirror (Mitsubishi Carisma)
Does anyone have any idea how one would go about this?
Unlike every other blooming car on the planet. the wing mirrors on the Mitsubishi Carisma are located On the door, joined to the car below the window level, so it's not as simple as popping off the triangle on the inside of the window and changing the bolts.
It looks as if I'm going to have to pop off the door panel, but ideally I'd rather not, so if anyone has any advice or has done it themselves, I'd be very appreciative if you could offer some words of advice.

Mitsi door cards usually come off very easily, there'll be a small screw in the pull handle recess, possibly one under a flip cover on the outer door edge, and possibly a couple securing the armrest, get those out and the rest of the door card is probably held on by clips...this is not French rubbish so 75% of the clips won't break.
I expect its sister Volvo S40 is similar layout, you might well find Youtube videos to help guide you through for one or the other.0 -
not sure how old your car is but look out for side impact air bags in the door and attached to the door cards, if it is an older car with no side impact air bags then it is not to bad a job to remove a door card
just look out for air bags0 -
Thanks both! You were right about the door card, came undone fairly painlessly. Haven't pulled it right off though, just delicately jimmied it enough to access the electrics for the mirror, but not so much that I might accidentally set off the airbags.
It's a 1998 model, it does have airbags in the front, but I'm not sure about anything over and above that so I've been cautious just on the off chance, although probably unnecessarily0 -
www.euroncap.com/tests/mitsubishi_carisma_2001/93
that is the Euroncap test from 2001 and it says no side impact airbags were fitted as standard
if there were airbags in the door cards it would have airbag warning stickers on them
but just as well to be cautious0 -
All done! Thanks very much
Feeling rather pleased with myself now0 -
Well done, treat yourself to a glass of your favourite.0
