Argos Sofas

We bought a set of Argos sofas just under a year ago.

We recently complained to them because on both sofas:
the seats are sunken, the fabric internally has already wasted away and if you put your hand down the side of the cushion, nails were sticking out, they also squeak.

Someone from them came to visit us telling us to only settle for a replacement because the condition is terrible and that it is a manufacturer's fault.

However, this same person told them it wasn't a manufacturer's fault.

We called Argos today to be told we have to hire someone to check the sofas, write a letter saying it's a manufacturer's fault and only then would they consider doing anything about it.

We have no idea what we're supposed to do, any help please?

(We've bought sofas from Argos before and they lasted us years and are still in good order)

Furniture ombudsman will provide reports I believe.

£125 but if it is inherently faulty....the retailer will be responsible for the report cost (although you'd still have to pay it upfront).

Just to add, you could also try reasoning with Argos and asking them to double check the engineer hasnt gotten confused as he definitely told you manufacturing fault and obviously if it is inherently faulty then they will be responsible for reasonable costs you incur due to this breach (ie report costs).
