Challenging a parking ticket

I wonder if anyone is able to advise me on the following please.
The other day I got a parking ticket and believe I may have a chance of challenging it. But my problem is is that the ticket is issued in my maiden name as (I've just remembered) my driving licence and V5 (totally forgot about changing that) haven't been changed over yet.
I'm just worried that if I challenge it, something might be flagged up stating that they haven't been changed yet, and I don't want to end up with £1000 fine instead. If that's the case, I'd rather just pay the fine and be done with it.
Thank you.

First things first, get the name changed at DVLA on licence and V5C. Get that in the post today.
Then just challenge it, and address the letter as "Mrs X Jones (nee Smith)". If anybody queries it, which they won't, just say "I'm recently married, and the name change on the paperwork's underway at the moment... Now, about the grounds for appeal...?"0
