Can't understand financial notification

If "supplementary grants" total is more than "the amount you need to pay to uni or college" does that mean no fees have to be paid?

No loan requested.

Form is very vague

TIA

Course fees must be paid regardless of how much supplementary grant you recieve.

If the level of supplementary grant is greater than the course fee then you can choose to pay the fee with your grant instead of taking out a fee loan. That is your choice.

Remember though that all of your grant will not be paid until you are well into the course but the institution may request fees be paid at the start of the course. Also consider how you will pay your living costs. In most cases students are better off taking a loan for the fees.

I imagine that for this situation to occur you are on a full time course with fees less than the standard £3070 but come from a household with an income low enough to qualify for a large grant.

Thanks v much Broke Student, yes the fees are £100 less than the maintenance grant. I assumed that the fees would automatically be taken from the grant, that wasn't made clear on the form either. Is it paid in instalments?

my daughter gets the maintenance grant & if i remember rightly she got paid in 3 monthly installments. She finds it easier to get a loan for the student fees & use her grant for other costs, such as books. You normally apply for the tuition loan on the same form !!! the maintenance loan/grant.

The fees will not automatically be taken from a grant.
The grant is money for you coming from the LEA - nothing to do with the course fees. As lexi says, they will be given to you in installments.
Normally the student finance company would pay the Uni money for course fees. As you are not applying for a tuition fee loan you will need to contact the university and ask them how you should pay (if you do not then they will eventually ask you for money anyway when they realise that the student finance company did not pay for you along with the other students). I would imagine that they will give details of who to write a cheque to and which department to send it. Make sure you ask if there is a discount for paying upfront as some Unis give a discount!

I didn't think you could get grants without applying for the loan, or is that just the old system?
