Private Selling

Hi All

Has anyone here sold/bought a property privately ie not via an estate agent? It has been recommended to me but I'm not sure about how to go about it or whether it's worth it.
What are the pros and cons?

I bought mine privately but it was off a friend so there was no advertising or anything to be done.

We agreed a price, both instructed solicitors and it all went very smoothly from there. I've only bought one house so have no experience of using an estate agent but I certainly had no problem buying without one.

The con of buying privately is finding someone who's selling, but isn't advertising that their house is for sale. Once they advertise, it's no longer 'private'

The pros of selling privately would appear to be a saving on fees, but the cons are that you do all the work that would normally be done by an agent, and that you'll be virtually invisible when it comes to people you don't know trying to find your house for sale.
