Struggling to get quote..

I wanted a retaining wall built adjacent to the driveway - there is currently a large rockery there which spills soil onto the drive - also will give me a bit more room to park second car.
Have got 4 builders to come and have a look over the past few weeks - one came back to check on something - but so far no quote out of any of them.
I hate chasing as if they don't want to do the work then I really don't want them bothering - however I texted 3 of them on the basis that I was wondering if their "quote had got lost" ... one texted back and said that he had sent it and would also e-mail a copy....
I have had other work done recently (not retaining wall type stuff but tree work / roof work) and have no trouble getting people... what is the problem, am running out of people to pester .. I mean ask

Good contractors are very busy at the moment. It is becoming a major headache getting quotes, even for tenders for larger projects.
Keep chasing them, be firm without being too pushy. If you are too nice you will constantly be pushed to the back of the builder's "to do list".0 -
Don't text would be my advice. It is harder to rebuff someone you are actually speaking to.0

thanks for advice, I was sort of working on the basis that if they hadn't quoted then they didn't want the work OR there was some fundamental problem about the work that made it unattractive.
One has got back to me know and said he will be delivering quote over weekend - still quiet on the other 3...0 -
I am having the same with bathroom quotes. 2 people came round and said they would quote. I've chased by email, nothing from either of them. I am not chasing again, so out of the running is how I play it.
If they can't get back to you with a quote, they could easily mess you about with the work, not turning up etc. No quote to me says don't use them.0
