Switched from E.On to Co-OP but final bill from E.On is an estimate
Options
Hi
I switched fuels last month from E.on to Co-Op and I have just received the "final bill" from E.On. I didn't provide meter readings so checked on my online bill (it doesn't specify whether it is an actual reading or estimate on my paper bill) and online it says it is an estimated reading.
How can my "final bill" from E.on be an estimate? How will Co-op know what to charge from?
I am very confused. Can anyone advise me please?

If not then they will both have used estimates and the new Co-OP account should start at the same estimated reading.
It is the Co-Op's responsibility to give EoN the closing reading.0 -
Morning expat_jo
Thought I'd pop on and let you know what happens when a supply changes hands.
Following the switch, it's the new supplier's responsibility to let the old supplier know the meter readings they're going to use to open their account.
The old supplier will use the same readings to close their account. This makes sure you're only charged once for the same energy.
After a time, if the new supplier hasn't sent us the readings, we'll estimate the final bill. This isn't set in stone, though, and we'll be happy to re-bill the account if the new supplier lets us have the relevant readings.
Hope this makes things a bit clearer expat_jo. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

I have never been asked to provide meter readings by Co-op!0

Thanks Malc. So, I haven't been asked by Co-op to supply meter readings, in fact I haven't heard anything from them at all. The only reason I know it is happening/had happened is your final bill and an email from uswitch!0

Co-Op, with all their problems, dodgy. Im currently querying their final bill, Im sure their pulling a fast one due to owing Squillions.0

OK, thanks. My DH says he has seen a dd from our bank to Co-op but we haven't received any paperwork or emails from them so I think I need to contact them.
Thanks for your views.0 -
Glad to help expat_jo.
Did you make a note of the readings when the supply switched? If you did, let the Co-op know. They'll send us the new readings and we can re-bill to these.
If not, make sure our closing readings match the Co-ops opening readings. This way, you'll only pay once for the same energy.
Don't worry if there's a discrepancy. There's an industry wide process called an Agreed Reads Dispute (ARD) to put things right. With this, the two suppliers agree readings between themselves to make sure the same energy is only charged once.
There are certain thresholds before an ARD can be raised. These are a difference of 250 units for electricity and 45 units for a 4 dial gas meter or 120 units for a 5 dial.
If the difference is below these thresholds, we'll need to look at this on an individual basis to make sure you don't lose out.
Either supplier can raise an ARD.
Hope this helps when you're talking to the Co-op.
