Free microchipping

Soon in the UK it will be law to microchip all dogs.
"Microchipping will be compulsory from 6th April 2016 in England, and 1st March 2015 in Wales"
St Stead on Plantation Drive, York is offering free microchipping throughout April 2014 (definitely throughout April but not sure if it's for 12 months or just 1). No need to ring just turn up during the opening times (or I think they are also doing microchipping between 3pm-5pm weekdays) and let the receptionist know. You don't have to be a client of there's anyone can go.
It also doesn't matter what your income is or if you are with the PDSA or anything like that (as Steads is a PDSA vet).

If you miss out this month then you could probably contact the Dogs Trust and see if they will do it for free. Or ring Steads to see if it is a 12 month offer.

Cats can also be microchipped free in June at ST Steads - but I would ring to confirm this.
If you are not in York have a look at this map for participating vets.

Just thought some of you may be interested, as is can cost between £5-30 to microchip a dog, so you can save a bit of money here
**I am a new member so can't post links sorry, so I've had to split them up a bit, copy and paste them and remove the spaces + add the ' w w w dot ' and they should still work. I also numbered them so it is obvious where the link are**

Brilliant - thanks for this.
Do you know what's the youngest age you can microchip a puppy? Mine's 8 weeks old.
Thanks0 -

This would be absolutely fine as my puppy came to me already microchipped at that age

Hi,
I've done a quick Google search and there doesn't seem to be any age restrictions but some people say at least 6 weeks so you should be fine
(I only know about the microchiping because we took our dog in the other day and then I had a look on the Dogs Trust website and found some more info about the law change.)
Might as well get it done whilst it's free though
