JSA to ESA

Hi Everyone,
I've recently had to close my JSA claim, having experienced my third period of illness this year. I've been advised to make a claim for ESA instead. Admittedly I should have claimed ESA in the first place.
I'm concerned by this as feel it places me at a financial disadvangtage. This is because I received around £160 a week in JSA (JSA, Disability and Severe Disability Premium).
I will now only receive the £70 odd ESA during the assessment phase. Only after I've been assessed and grouped will I receive £160. As I'm sure you all know, due to the backlog this could take months. Even if I am assessed around, say, the 10th week this still means that for the next 13 weeks I'll only be receiving seventy-odd pounds instead of the £160 I was receiving.
Should the medical take several months to come, I'll probably be signing off ESA before I even have the medical due to either starting a job or going travelling/returning to university. I did have a job lined up to start my new health problems have delayed things.
Seems rather silly that I should be financially disadvantaged in this way. Is there not some way around this, or is this just one of those things?

You should get the severe disability premium within your ESA. (going by your figures for JSA, it does sound as though you were receiving it?)Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

But until I'm assessed I won't. This is my point. For at least the 13 week assessment I'm about £90 a week worse off than I am on JSA.
I am right in thinking that the SDP will only be backdated to the 13th week, and not the very start of my claim?
Even if it does, I am concerned I'll never get actually get assessed and grouped before I come off ESA.0 -
No. The SDP will be part of your initial claim.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Agree.
As long as you are claiming income based ESA extra premiums can be added on during the assessment period.
