Connecting iPad to TV?

My daughter would like to watch things from her iPad on her TV.
Apple advised her she needed a digital av adapter.
Is this the best/cheapest way to connect or can she buy a lead from amazon or eBay :-)
Thanking you in advance for any help.
ETA, it's to watch films off an app, they are not downloaded, in case that makes a difference.

Apple TV is the easiest way to do it. It's about £90.
Depending on the size of the television and the resolution of whatever she's watching on the ipad she might not get great quality on the TV mind you.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Apple TV is a little box you sit under your TV, connected by HDMI. It will 'mirror' your iPhone/iPad screen (but as a square, not widescreen) and some apps will let you fill the entire screen (e.g. Netflix)
You do not need your TV to have wifi
If your daughter is just interested in YouTube/Netflix/iPlayer (it is limited to certain apps), she might want to look at a Chromecast as it is only £30. Won't work with Amazon video.
You could always get a 10 foot cable.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00GGDP0VE/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers
What version iPad is it? Does it have a new or old connector?0 -
Hi
I have the apple ipad to tv lead. A bit like this one although stick to the genuine apple products if you can
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/301076716064?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&device=t&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0
Then simply connect hdmi lead from tv to the above adapter.
It lets us watch all the netflix stuff and catch up tv apps. Not sure of its limitations but it suits fine0 -

Its an older ipad, I bought it a couple of years ago.
Its got the long connector. Not the new lightening one.0 -
The key difference is that youre not tethered to your tv if youre using the apple TV, and you can even stream some things without needing to actually use the ipad.
With the cable, yes it does much the same job, but you have to be within 2 metres of the TV (or however long your cable is). Which is inconvenient for some people.0 -
If it's the MovieTube app then that works fine with our ipad connected via the mentioned hdmi lead to our tv0
