I had this problem as some said one of my starters wouldn't be liked and it played in my mind. Mine was rosemary and garlic encrusted Brie with Cumberland sauce or per and ham soup for starters. Cavery for main choice of beef and turkey. Or artichoke and goats cheese open fill pastry with salad. Then Yorkshire ours and vegs roasties for mains. Choclate torte with raspberry coulis or apple pies with mandarin syrup and chantilly creM. They were all liked in he end. Kids had choice of half our main course or five of six starters mains pure from. Kids bar meal. Some that had ordered main has cavery in the end but here was plenty; Go with what you would like and ignore everyone else. It's your day

Mmmm i like everything! We had leek and potato soup, turkey dinner, choc and orange torte. The kids had half portions of the food.
  • We are having roast beef with all the trimmings for main, and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Quite old-school and possibly a bit 'boring' to some but as the wedding is in Yorkshire in November we thought people would want a proper dinner!

The kids are having mini Yorkshire puddings, bangers and mash and chocolate brownie or half-portions of the adult menu.

The one thing I am really struggling with is the starter - my mum has suggested soup but we're a bit limited in what we can have as my gran doesn't like tomatoes, and another friend has said he's not keen on one of my other suggestions which was spicy parsnip. This leaves leek and potato, which I don't like, but am seriously considering just ordering it and not eating mine to make things easier...

We also need to settle on a vegetarian main course, but I think I will just ask one or two of our veggie guests (if we have any, I'm trying to remember if we do or not) what they'd like from the menu and then decide based on that.

I sympathise with the menu decision-making difficulties. My OH originally wanted escargot (snails) for starter and cuisses des grenouilles (frog's legs) for the main - I kid you not. Although I like both of these, I quickly removed such ideas from his mind as I'm 99% sure that most of the British guests would be aghast in horror at these menu selections and not touch them!

So we finally settled on in-shell scallops with creamed leeks in white wine for starter, whole individual quail stuffed with mushroom & foie gras sauce for the main and then a dessert buffet for pudding with macarons, mini creme brûl!es, mini chocolate fondants etc. This all sounds rather grandiose, but OH is French and we are getting married in France so it's actually pretty standard for there. We wanted to include fish and decided that scallops are pretty inoffensive for most people, hence the choice (again OH wanted something 'wacky' by British standards with baby octopus; had to quash that idea too). Quail is like a little, more gamey kinda chicken so that should be OK. And then a load of mini French desserts should go down OK too. At the tasting it was delicious, so hoping it will be a success on the day!

Negotiating these with OH brought us close to a diplomatic incident, but all it settled now :D

All of those sound so yummy. I really wanted fish for my starter but I know far too many people that don't like fish

We are going with the following:

Cream of veg soup to start
Roast Beef & Yorkshire pudding main
    Profitteroles dessert

All easy, all liked, no worries...

Wedding is early December so the food matches the time of year well also...

We were given a standard menu, veg soup, chicken dinner, profiteroles.oh doesn't like the soup so we've given guests another option to pick and choose from, chicken kebab, lamb shank, apple pie. Just works out 20% more expensive but should cater to all hopefully. Will find out when invites go out I guess xxx
