Paid for goods at advertised price, but shop won't send them! Help!

I wonder if anyone could help with this. A friend of mine bought a set of furniture online from an established UK retailer - I'm not sure which one; I'm waiting for her to pass all the info to me. The goods were advertised at a bargin price, so she bought them and her order was aknowledged. The next thing she knows, her money was just refunded to Paypal. She didn't receive the goods or any explanation from the company. She emailed them, and they just told her that the goods were marked-up at the wrong price so she couldn't have them. And that was all they said - just that one line! Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the company obliged to let her have these goods at the advertised price? She paid for them, so she now owns them, doesn't she? I understand that the company could have refused to sell them to her if they were marked-up at the wrong price, but I didn't think they could sell them and then... well... un-sell them again(!) The furniture she bought is in stock and is still on the same website - albiet at a much higher price!

You are wrong
She does not own them, she made an offer to buy these items at the price, the shop went 'whoops, thats not correct, sorry' and sent her the money back.
That is all

You should read the terms and conditions of the website for details of when they state a contract is formed.
Someone else will come along with more details but as far as I am aware if they state not formed until dispatch, then they are quite within there rights to not agree to the sale at a particular price.0 -
Companies (e.g. Amazon) have sometimes in the past honoured incorrect prices but they don't have to legally. What they can't do is keep your money and ask you to pay the difference to obtain the goods. A refund is perfectly acceptable though.0
