How can I stop an unarranged overdraft fee with the Halifax?

Does anyone know if I can stop an unarranged overdraft fee?
After graduating from uni I had a student account with the Halifax which had a £1000 overdraft maxed out but being paid off. Soon after though, the bank turned my account into a regular current account with no overdraft. I now have an unarranged overdraft that keeps growing faster than I can pay it off.
I've tried to get the bank to keep the arranged overdraft on so I don't have to try and keep up with the charges, but no luck.
If anyone knows how I can stop the charges, I would be very grateful
