Thought on how to stop dog going in pond!

I have 2 raised ponds in my garden, made out of railway sleepers and lined with butyl. They've been lovely, but now my stupid dog has discovered that he's not out of his depth when he gets in.. so his nails have punctured the liners!
I can repair the liners, but does anyone have any ideas how I can keep him out of the ponds? He gets up on the sides (being sleepers they are about 8" wide), and then just plops in... grr

Couple of inches of gravel at the bottom might be enough to stop him being able to claw the bottom? Might need to put some sand in first to stop the grit/gravel doing the same as his claws.Adventure before Dementia!0

I did think of the pebbles, but he's so dopey he'd still go in, and possibly dig (I know...)... he has no problems at all with local streams and rivers at all! I'm thinking maybe some of this stuff
Might be a bit of a job doing it though!0 -

Training the dog not to do it is cheapest.
Sorry, but some problems are expensive and/or difficult to resolve.
Covering your pond with metal isn't going to make it terribly attractive as a garden feature, and ordinary mesh will rust, but it could be made less noticeable with a few coats of Hammerite in a dark shade.

Rebar laid in just one direction might do the same job if similarly painted :

+1 train him not to.
How old is the liner? What thickness? I have a butyl liner and there is no way a dogs nails would puncture it.
In the shop i got a medium sized philips screwdriver and used the small sample strip they had to see how easy it was to puncture. It scretched over the tip of the screwdriver to slightly over 1 inch before giving way.
