True Telecom

Just started looking around to see what we can do with our phones (home line, business line - no mobiles or internet as they are separate). We went with True Telecom last June (because I fell for the patter...) and because we were fed up of being tied into along term contract with BT and who-ever provided our home line at the time - can't remember who).

Anyway - it's costing a packet in call charges - I phoned today to be told we are in a three year contract - I specifically said I did not want a long term contact when I moved (still got the notes i made) - and was certain we'd done a 12 month thing. Anyway -I clearly didn't read the contact properly - its 36 months. Is there anything I can do (apart from not be such a muppet next time)

Advice gratefully received!

  • I was recently cold called by True Telecom. I said I wasn't interested in changing providers because although I was paying £75 a month with BT for line rental/calls and broadband, every time I tried to change it caused distruption in service. I was assured by the sales man that the only thing that would change is who I paid my bill to. Interested I asked him to go on. He said he could cut my bills to about £35 a month. I asked again and again and he assured me there would be no distruption in service. Great I will change then if the only difference is who I pay my bill to.

The change over happened and to cut a long story short, I spent 3 weeks on the phone to them almost daily to complain about either slow broadband or no broadband at all. I spent hours on the phone to them testing this and that, unplugging this and that. Then my first bill arrived which they explained would be higher than normal £103.61. So much for cheap fast service!

I complained and eventually they said they would give me 3 months free credit. They wouldn't however let me leave without paying about £200. I agreed to this until I was still not receiving proper broadband service. Again I complained and eventually they agreed to waiver the leaving charge. Hooray, that was until I received my next months bill which was £73.85. I complained again - all to no avail and decided to pay it and chalk it up to stupidity, and bad mouth them at any opportunity I get.

I feel totally ripped off by this company and would tell anyone not to touch them with a barge pole! I am now back with BT on a much better deal and my first bill was £34.95. Excellent!
  • Avoid this company like the plague, having had unpleasant dealings with them in the past I done some digging and found that the foul little dwarf with an extreme case of small man syndrome Stuart Griffiths is the chief executive of True Telecom, he was the owner of Advantage Telecom another BT reseller who duped customers into 5 year extortionate contracts by sailing close to the line pretending they were offering BT services at a discount.

I heard horror stories of staff being employed 7am to 7pm and earning as little as £400 a month due to their ridiculous commission structure which penalised staff who didn't 'sell their con' correctly.

These are a despicable outfit who change identity every so many years to avoid the inland revenue. Parasites like Stuart Griffith should be jailed. He is nothing but a con artist.

Still driving around in a Bentley Stuart? Did they have to adapt special dwarf seats for your midget body or do you sit on a child's seat and push the pedals with sticks? He looks ridiculous!

Thought I'd have a look at their website - just out of interest.

Warning sign on their Residential page banner - "Did you know? It's now free to call an 08 number from your mobile"

NO IT'S NOT - it's only free to call 080 (freephone) numbers.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
