Newbie! Fresh Start:

Hi all,

I'm new so hopefully this is in the right place.

Following a pretty rough relationship and my ex leaving me in fairly substantial debt 6 years ago I finally have a clean slate.

My credit file is weak at present, but to stengthen it I have recently registered on the electoral roll. I have no defaults on file now, just my bank with a small overdraft which is in green and has been for the last six years, I have one payday loan always satisfied on time and that is it. I have recently applied for an Aqua card and was accepted to boost my ratings (will pay this off in full every month)

The only bad thing currently is the lack of credit and one CCJ for £880 which is 5 years old.

I really want to get things back on track get a decent 0% Credit card etc, and I currently earn in excess of £40k per year.

My question is how much longer before I can start seeing a credit score good enough to start seeing the benefits, has anyone managed to get a decent credit card with a 5 year old CCJ.

Any advice on anything else I should do would be most helpful.

Thanks

James

It's probably worth waiting the further year and then applying for something mainstream.

The payday loan will also deter lenders, so you need that to fade into the distance, ideally.

You you will not get anywhere near a 0% Credit card with a CCJ I would suspect.

Your best bet is to try sub prime lenders like Vanquis/Capital One/Aqua. Manage them well and when the CCJ is gone then you should be able to get better rates.

    I hope earning £40k a year the CCJ for £880 is a paid CCJ at £880 :)

Honestly... no but only because I didnt know I had it until 3 months ago when I checked my file (went to my ex's address) and I figured that with it being 6 years next year it would be better to let it run.

I will get rid of the payday loan sounds like good advice.
