'Previous applicants need not reapply'

Why do they say that? Does it mean all the unsuccessful applicants have been so awful that they never want them to darken their doorstep again? Some of the previous applicants may have been offered the job but turned it down. Their circumstances may have changed and they may now be interested.

I don't have an axe to grind, as this hasn't happened to me (yet!) Just curious.

Good question one possible reason might be that they could actively contact previous applicants themselves if they remember someone who narrowly missed out.

Sometimes companies send out the courtesy email saying along the lines of "You have not been successful on this occassion but we will keep your details on file and contact you in the event of a vacancy suitable to your skillset becoming available."

I had an interview a couple of months ago. I didn't get the job but they said if something else came up within the next 6 months they would offer it to me without another interview. However, this organisation doesn't say previous applicants need not apply.

A bit of both - if a candidate was good but pipped at the post by another, then if a new post comes up that we think they might be interested in then we'll get back to them.
Plus we also had a run of applicants who either didn't come close to meeting the job spec, or were clearly unsuitable at interview but who kept re-submitting applications anyway. Just trying to stop people wasting their own time and ours.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I believe it is if you have applied and either got an interview or not but not got the job offer then do not apply again

They say it as they have already considered you and or met you too.

  • Well I had it recently after applying for a PART TIME job at asda, it said that I could not apply again for 6 months for ANY job at asda. Now you would think that I may have a criminal record, drug/alcohol problem or any other issue after being so rudely discounted(I don't of course), I simply sent off my perfectly presentable C.V and begging letter, received reply. The sad fact is that its an employers market and they can treat people how they want, with so many applicants for unskilled minimum wage, no benefit to the worker jobs like this, I found it particularly insulting as many of our local asda employees are erm... a little bit backwards shall we say, (no malice intended) I beg to understand the application process, maybe its a requirement and I was just overqualified. Yes that's it.

Considering your attitude towards what would have been your potential colleagues I can see why they rejected you.

The simple answer is that the employer didn't feel the original batch of potentials met their fit.

Well thankyou for your thoughts, really helpful, for one though, I don't have an attitude towards "my potential colleagues" as you have put it and as I didn't mention it in my C.V, I don't think it was the reason for not getting it ok, so you can get down from your moral high horse im simply stating a FACT with, like I said, no malice intended. come on down to asda in Weston you can see for yourself that the trolly collector dribbles more than Wayne Rooney. Anyway i will let you get on with your 1666th post. thanks again

Perhaps he dribbles due to a learning disability or brain injury? You do come across as rather an offensive person.

You don't need to put on your CV any attitudes you may have, the psychometric questions will soon weedle them out of you.
