Don't know if all branches of Asda are the same, but going by my local branch, they don't ask for good personal grooming or the ability to use joined up handwriting, either......

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

Completely irrevelant to the thread (sorry OP) but I love this user name!I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.0 -

The simple answer is that the employer didn't feel the original batch of potentials met their fit.
It is also true if they see you as being too ambitious or smart, or not content to just "potter about" doing menial activities instead opting to stand out as a forward thinker then you won't get the job.
I would have to agree that some Asda shop workers do appear to be feeble-minded, but then they are polite ... even sickeningly so.
This is why getting into Asda's shop floor is so difficult: they want more of the same profiles currently tenured, but there is a need to shortlist people without anarchistic attitudes as only they will fit in.
Also, psychometric tests are a not foolproof tool and should never be used to make a decision on an interviewee.
I'm also sure that Asda hires all profiles of jobseeker in the education spectrum, and kudos for them for doing that because they believe everyone has something to contribute - which is more than can be said for some firms.0 -

And why didn't the candidates meet Asda's "fit"?
That is a nothing answer really. Doesn;t tell anyone why he didn't get the job.
Ah, after reading through rest of the thread, it was because he sent a CV, rather than applying online.
Well, that's a fair enough reason to reject someone. They should have just told him this though, rather than saying it was becasue he wasn;t the right "fit".0 -

Maybe so but an employer is quite entitled to use them if they wish.
As long as they don't discriminate on the handful of grounds prohibited by law they can use any means they please - even drawing names out of a hat!0 -
Laughing so hard at the tool who didn't get a job in Asda then saw it fit to degrade all those that already work there HAHA0

It saves employers a lot of time.
We did a recruitment run at the beginning of last year, and then didn't do another, as with more than 400 CV's on file, we were able to pick from those, plus advertise a few specialist roles around last July with the 'previous applicants' wording.
90% of what we filled last year weren't advertised explicitly, due to this.

That's more encouraging then, as it means previous applicants are being considered.3 stone down, 3 more to go0
