I remember now, it included reflashing of the chimney which was causing damp to come down the chimney breast.0

What use do you think the 17 year old paperwork would have?
Almost certainly not going to be worth anything.
Renegotiate based on what you know. I'd expect going 50/50 is fair. We had damp issues in our last house we sold, we were totally upfront about it and said we wouldn't take a penny reduction on their offer as a result of the damp.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Amazingly, with talk of concerns about cost, the paperwork has turned up.
30 year guarantee with Remtox which, according the webpage is still valid even though the contractor who did it has gone out of business. Will give them a ring tomorrow afternoon once I've got the results of the damp survey (that phrase makes me think of a poor surveyor walking around in slightly musty, soggy clothes). So, all things considered, that 17 year old paperwork might be worth a fair bit!0 -

I'm just wondering how you got on with calling off your guarantee? I have recently bought and moved into a property and damp has started spreading on the bedroom wall (not sure whether it's condensation or external). I'm about to get it looked at. Having looked through the house purchase paperwork, I do have a Remtox Guarantee for 30 years (for either Remtox or the approved Contractor who undertook the work - the approved Contractor is still trading). The DPC work was undertaken in 1995, so we're 19 years into the Guarantee.
Also, a quick query to anyone in the know, I have a solid brick external wall on the property with timber floors. If a DPC was installed to the ground floor, would the guarantee cover the first floor also?
