need help with creating blog or web presence

Hi all, now to start with I am not highly technically minded but I will have a go!

I am part of a local cycling group who are an offshoot of a charity for sustainable travel and we are trying to get more people to come along for a ride.

we do not have many members mainly because not many know about us etc! I want to create either a blog or ideally a web page but that would have to be either v cheap or free unless we can get some money from somewhere.

I know about word press but how can I optimize it comes up on people who are searching for local cycle groups? and also I can create a web page I guess. any suggestions would be very useful

Easiest and cheapest method would be a Facebook group.

The amount of information that you are asking for is rather large.

You need to start searching free websites and also SEO which stands for Search Engine Optimization.

It's not an easy task as lets face it everyone wants to be top of Google.

I wish you well with it.

Great advice for the short term but on Facebook you would "build your house on rented land".
You should definitely have a Facebook Page and/or group but it should not be your main channel.

For a blog I would use Wordpress with a nice theme. You can find nice ones on sites like Theme Forrest or Theme Trust. I would not worry too much about hosting, just get a cheap one.

Also spend some time on "Keyword Research" and try to make use of that in order to get some views for the blog. Because you are targeting a local "niche" you should be able to get decent ranking in google.

    I hope this helps!
