No difference in Price between Tesco and Aldi

in Gone off!
I have always done my shopping at mainly Tesco and odd times at Asda.
After hearing loads of people raving about aldi/lidl on here I thought I would go to one of their stores and have a sneak peak at the items they sell and the price in my town Sheffield.
By looking at majority of the items that we mainly buy I can honestly say there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between these cheap stores and major stores like Tesco.

To be fair some items are the same price eg 1kg rice 40p.
Have you tried putting a shoping list into mysupermarket.co.uk?
I normally save £7-8 on a £40 shop plus £5 voucher from the Mirror on the last Thursday of the month.0 -
I think many of the big stores (especially Asda and Tesco) have a big push on to cut certain prices at the moment as they're suffering as customers vote with their feet.
I think you need to be sure that your are comparing like with like as Aldi definitely has better quality for many things than the basic ranges in supermarkets. Even reduced, very little fruit and veg is as cheap as Super 6. I just did a quick check on just one of the things I buy and, for example, and the Fat Free Plain yogurt in Aldi is 55p compared with £1.09 in Asda.
I do most of my shopping in Aldi, a few brands that I like from Sainsbury (closest for fuel reasons) but I do shop around a bit (Farmfoods, Iceland, £ shops etc) when I'm out and about for things I can stock up on. Depends how much time /access to shops you have I suppose.0 -
If you are comparing Tesco's Everyday Value with Aldi products then there won't be much difference price wise although the quality of Tesco's offerings will be nowhere near that of Aldi's range. If on the other hand you match up Tesco's standard price food with Aldi then you'll notice there's a substantial difference. For example:
Baked Beans: Tesco 45p Aldi 32p
Chicken Thighs: Tesco £3 per kilo Aldi £2.65 per kilo
Frozen Peas: Tesco £1.60 per kilo Aldi 0.99p per kilo
Chicken Gravy Granules: Tesco 40p per 100g Aldi 25p per 100g
Frozen Raspberries: Tesco 57.1p per 100g Aldi 49.7p per 100g
Single Cream: Tesco 23p per 100ml Aldi 23p per 100ml
All price and size comparisons taken from My Supermarket.

That's a pretty uninspiring meal chosen more or less at random but as you can see apart from the cream everything is cheaper at Aldi.
Anyway I wish less people did shop at Aldi. My main bugbear with the place is having to queue up to walk around and get to the shelves due to the narrow aisles and massive throngs of people swarming around0 -
Tesco have definitely reduced prices recently. Milk, £1 free range eggs £1 and now large cauliflowers for 50p. The results out today show they are doing less well and are having to compete with Aldi and Lidl. However Tesco will be making their suppliers bear the cost and Aldi and Lidl do it by cutting overheads. Sensible shopping around is always necessary. Tesco won't be getting me back as a one shop customer but I will buy the bargains when convenientDownshifted

I had some vouchers to use up in Tesco and was appalled by some of there prices in comparison to Aldi (bread, milk, fruit, veg etc). I cannot see how anyone could think they were similarly priced.0

I thought the own brand butter was priced the same now (c£1/250g)?
Agree with the sentiment re: Tesco, avoid unless there are no other choices (including petrol purchases).Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Yeah I would stick with Tesco if I were you.

I really don't understand where people come from when they say they can't see how Aldi are cheaper than Tesco. I fill my trolley to the top at the beginning of the month, filling my freezer, my cupboards and it also does my fridge for about ten days. The only thing I need to buy after a few days is fruit and Milk. Bread I buy on reduction and defrost as needed. 94 quid my last shop was and that was using two vouchers which gave me 10 pound off. My cupboard will last the month and my freezer. All I need is a restock of the fridge and packed lunch items for the kids middle of the month so maybe another 60 quid.
My friend spends 130 quid every week at Tesco and most of her shop is Tesco value items. Even knowing that my food bill a month is half hers she still stays loyal to Tesco & runs out of money by the end of every month. Since I swapped to Aldi I have put money in a savings account every month. I would never go back now to the main supermarkets. There a few items I buy at Tesco, a certain brand of cat litter. I only buy Heinz ketchep, Douwe Egberts coffee and birds eye garden peas. However always search to see where they are on offer.
I also love Iceland and Farmfoods too. Why pay more than you have to!'There are far better things ahead Than any we leave behind '0 -
There's no way the Tesco round here is the same as Aldi. I do a large shop at the beginning of every month spending around £60.00 to £70.00 after the Mirror vouchers. At the beginning of this month i spent £67.00 before £5.00 discount and in a moment of boredom i entered all of the details from my Aldi receipt onto the Tesco website. I chose similar items, including some basics, normal tesco and some higher end stuff and it came out at nearly a hundred pound.
Ive done this a few times and Aldi's on average about 1/3 cheaper than Tesco ni my experience.March 2014 Grocery challenge £250.000 -
Hi
A reason I like Aldi is there is no trickery with prices & lots of deals & bogofs trying to get you to buy things you don't really want.
The stores are smaller & focus on the basics so I can be in & out fairly quickly whereas with my local Tesco extra it takes me alot longer as you're tempted to look at things you don't really want or need.
