Experian and electoral roll

Experian don't have us on the electoral roll but we are. Can anyone help by telling me the quickest way to get this mistake sorted please?

So far we've called experian and they are going to look into it but it could take "a while"

We're applying for a mortgage and were declined on the credit report -this is the only issue on our experian reports so is there a way around this?

any help gratefully received :o

On the electoral roll? Yes I've been on it and still am at my current address for over 8 years.
  • I've found that the best way to deal with all the CRAs is to raise an official dispute. That starts the clock ticking and they have 28 days to resolve the issue.

It's still a bit of a joke - but at least you know the timeframe to expect the issue to be resolved by.

Once the dispute is raised, you can then contact your local Electoral Roll Office at your council and they can send you a letter confirming registration that you can then scan and e-mail as evidence for the dispute. Some Electoral Roll Offices charge an admin fee to do this - though can send a copy of the latest voter registration form that they have on file, marked copy for free.... It's a crazy world we live in as that probably takes more time and effort than just sending a form letter with your details on it!

We're also getting polling cards in the next few weeks for the European Elections - so a copy of these could also be used as evidence for the CRAs.

I've been through a similar issue with Call Credit and now it's (almost) sorted. The most important thing to do is to get the dispute raised as that sets the legal clock ticking and it is down to the CRA to have and provide correct information for the ER. Once the dispute is raised (rather than a casual enquiry) go about collecting the evidence and sending it to them so that they can't blindly deny that there could be any fault or glitch with their systems.

Thank you I have done this and called them again today, I might become a bit of a pest. When so many companies are relying on an computer output based on the information given by an external source it's important that source has correct uptodate information. Why is it up to me to check they have info about me correctly stored, I dread to think how much these mortgage companies pay for the privilege of turning away good business based on incorrect info aaaahhhhhh sorry rant over!
  • I totally agree with you.

I had the same with both Equifax and Call Credit this year. Both said they'd updated based off the Council ER records, both said that myself and my partner weren't on the ER and there was absolutely no possibility that their information was incorrect or that there were any update errors or glitches, and both refused to check. Equifax was even also reporting someone that was a previous tenant was still on the ER, although I knew for a fact they weren't on last years or this years.

Had to do the running round myself, and prove to them. Equifax then did start listening, Call Credit didn't. Turns out it was because Call Credit planned to buy the registers late this year and bought them even later... They knew they were still uploading them but wouldn't admit to it until the Council told me they'd only bought them a week earlier, and when I then challenged Call Credit with this info someone did check and admit they were still uploading data. If they'd just said that in the first place, it would've been easier.

The CRAs really should have more checks and balances and be willing to confirm data (not necessarily arbitrate on whether it's fair but they should certainly check it's what's on the register / what a company has provided / etc)... It shouldn't be down to the end user / customer / person being reported to do the chasing and not only check but prove, and then chase, and force them to do something about it!

That's my rant over now... ;)
