Hello everyone!

I am moving to Edinburgh in September and will be getting a one-bedroom flat in the EH11 area most likely. My girlfriend will be there half the time, but I will be at hers a lot too, so lets say bills will cost 1.25x more than if it were just me.

I will not own a TV but plan to cook everyday, charge tablet/iphone laptop. I barely have the heating on but my girlfriend will have it on more.

What can I expect to pay in bills? I currently pay 25 pounds a month living in 4 person household. Can I expect to pay the same in a 1 person household or are there certain fixed costs?

Also, I know this isn't energy but I am hoping my mobile (should be around 15), broadband (not sure yet but will be able to pay line rental up front), gas, elec and water all come in at less than 100 a month, so along with 100 max council tax, 500 rent I will be paying I will have rent and bills at 8400 a year.

Is this realistic? Sorry but this will all be new territory for me.

  • Will obviously vary greatly based on the size of your flat (how well insulated etc.), whether you have gas or a phone line, regional unit price differences and personal usage amounts, but as a very very rough guide, I paid £65-75 a month for water, elec and broadband (no gas and no phone line needed) for 1 person in a 1 bed flat - worked from home most days using laptop, didn't have a TV and kept temperature 18-22C in the daytime.
