The correct type will be whatever it says in the owners handbook, I would suspect it's Dexron II.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

There is nothing in the handbook about power steering fluid.

Do a check using Shell Lubematch or similar sites from Mobil or Castrol.

They list power steering fluids and auto trans fluids aswell.

Never having owned or even looked under the bonnet of an Insignia i assume they don't have electric steering?

Shell Lubematch only says "See Owners Manual".

In that case, the easiest way to confirm the correct fluid specifications would be to call your local Vauxhall dealership and ask them.
