Help with Sky cable

Hi I have sky connected and want to move my tv to the other side of the room.The cable(connected to the dish and fed into the house and into the box) isn't long enough what is the name of the cable I need to extend it and where would I get it from? Thankful for any help.

It's called satellite extension cable! For the very old sky you might only need the single cable, but for sky + you will need the twin 'shotgun' cable similar to:-

You can expect to have a weaker signal when you do this too because
a) the cable has got longer
b) you are introducing a join.
Check your signal strength before and after. If your signal is already 'not great' you'll be causing more problems.

You could try getting Sky to re cable for you externally.

Call them up and say you are cancelling as you are changing your room layout and the existing cables are not long enough.

They might offer you a free re-cable which will not only save you money but will probably mean that you will get new cable(s) without any joins run mostly externally and not have a long cable crossing your room and possible signal degradation from the join.

Do you have Sky with a single feed or Sky+ with recording and twin feeds?

You'd need a very weak signal in the first place for it to make a material impact. According to the bar charts we have about 10% signal strength if connecting straight to the faceplate with a normal short cable. Add a 8m pair of extensions (couldnt find 1 long enough) and we still get about 10% strength and no more issues

Sky mini dishes reception can be marginal if you are in the northern UK at the best of times. Add any extra attenuation of the signal and rain fade becomes an increasing problem. It's not how high the signal is when conditions are perfect, it's what it is like with heavy rain and snow that counts! That is if you want unrestricted viewing....only watching TV when the weather is fine. Do you have any problems viewing in heavy rain? Any picture break up or blocks on screen? I notice that your in Scotland which could be an important factor. You can scrimp and buy an extension cable or you could get it done properly and reduce any risk of problems due to weather.

I have a relative whose Sky was unwatchable every time it rained, she dumped it and moved to freeview.

I bought my cable and connectors from ebay and it works a treat no problems whatsoever

Would there have been any problem leaving the Sky box where it was and simply buying a longer HDMI cable to the television?
