One of the stated features was aluminium gearbox. I would assume the gearbox is heavy and actually heavier than the motor, especially on a variable speed, reverse forward drill. So it will make a start difference in handling if the gearbox was alu rather than steel.
However the icon on the box for aluminium gearbox feature bullet was a cog. I hope that doesn't mean it actually uses aluminium gears. What do you think?

To me I would assume that it referred to the gear box housing being aluminium and not the gears them selves, think about it .... if the gears were aluminium then they aren't going to last long at all
If it the case that the housing is Ali then it'll be a lighter drill that an all steel gear box housing. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
What do you think that the gearbox is made of on your Golf?
Yet again you have demonstrated that you lack any basic mechanical aptitude! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I'm pretty sure it means aluminium gearbox casing containing steel gears.
I've got a similar Titan SDS drill, which proudly claims to have a Magnesium gearbox. I wouldn't worry about it too much, my drill has given me great service considering its low purchase price.0 -
yeah, had I not seen the illustration on the box I would have just assumed it was the gearbox casing that was aluminium. But the illustration had a picture of a cog to represent the gearbox. I guess it's just down to the compartmentalisation of product design, some graphic designer was tasked to design the packaging without any experience in engineering and decided to use a cog.0
