Yes you can, just remember the surface it's on must be very sturdy and you need to make sure the machine can't vibrate itself off when spinning , seen it done many times when servicing domestic appliances

When we lived in our house our washer dryer was wall mounted in a shed to save space in our very small kitchen, it was on a metal stand which went over our freezer.

So the consensus is yes with care.
Care varying from pretty serious engineering to something off ebay - which slightly depends on how you cope with risk.

So go for it & all the best!

  • Hi yes our house has a washing machine in the ulitily room on top of a heavy duty worktop we got the worktop from Petal Postforming and the brackets and screws from your diy shop. There isnt much work involved you will need to rearrange the pipes from the washing machine.

Thanks for all the helpful replies:j.

    Main points:
    • I'll have a look at top-loaders - could be a good solution for me, with a dryer on the wall.
    • For a washer/dryer, maybe a brick built base with a retaining 'lip'.
    • Servicing will be a problem:(.
    • The stacking kits are only for raising a dryer to chest level.
    • The purpose built pedestals look ok - 50cm would only just be enough - prefer 60cm.
    • I don't use the powder drawer anymore - too hard to clean out:o. I just pour a measure of liquid in the drum.
Thanks again for all the ideas.

Just read that you would have preferred a 60cm pedastel,

Garden paving slabs come in 60 x 60 cm sizes. Would it be possible to use the paving stacked to the required height you need the washer ?

why didn't i think of this?

I spent a small fortune making my kitchen accessible last year, high cooker, new cupboards lots of space for stools, trolleys and wheelchair if needed.. never crossed my mind to raise washer but it would have helped tremendously. Genius idea and one I shall remember .
