Hi all, not sure if this is the correct section or not! I have just purchased some goods from a very reputable company in Germany called Thomann,to the value of 1448.00 Eur. That amount is stated on my receipt as well as £1197.64 BUT when I look at my credit card statement I have paid £1223.73. When I got in touch with John Lewis Mastercard they said that £1223.73 was ask for by Thomann!!

Currency exchange handling/transaction fee?0

Check their terms and conditions, it's highly likely that this is an exchange rate and/or cost of processing the fee from a non-German credit card remembering that companies are charged a percentage of the transaction value.

The retailer will charge you in their local currency, it will then be charged to you in GBP according to the bank exchange rate.0 -
Thats correct, and the price that is on the web site and on my receipt has been at that price for a while and still is so it's not through fluctuation!http://www.thomann.de/gb/faq_question_what_about_exchange_rates_if_i_am_based_in_the_uk.html

But it does say that the prices they show in GBP are forguidance, that a credit card might charge a different exchange rate and that additional transaction charges may apply. So they make it clear that the price you pay in GBP is not necessarily the price they show. The fact that their GBP price has remained unchanged simply means that they update the exchange rates they use infrequently, whereas credit card companies update them daily0 -
They've charged your CC in euros and JLP will have converted that to pounds then charged for the conversion (2.75%?). You should get more detail on your CC statement - eg "xxxx euros at x.xx, x.xx% foreign currency charge = pounds charged". Not all CCs give as much detail on their short/quick statements, but should show on a full statement.0

But what I find baffling is that the credit card compnay say that Thomann asked for £1223.73 and Thomann say they charged £1197.640
