Twitter - suggestions

I don't use twitter very often (4 tweets since 2007!) however when I logged on today, there were several suggestions of people I might know at the top of the screen.

One of them is a chap that we met on holiday last year - how does Twitter know that I might know him?

I am not on facebook and don't have twitter on my phone so I can only think that its something to do with my emails.

I could maybe understand if it suggested someone famous that I might have searched on Google but I have probably swapped 3 emails with this chap so would it be this?

I'm not overly fussed but interested how 'they' know

If you grant it access (you may have done this when signing up), twitter will scan your gmail address book and suggest people to follow based off this

I'll check for the setting but its outlook.com/hotmail that I use.

Maybe you're in his address book. That would link you. I get similar suggestions for Facebook. People I have met but I have no mutual friends at all!
