Helping my mum out with finances

I'm 18 and one of 2 children mum has at home. We get no support from my dad at all, and haven't done for the majority of our lives (mum has 3 kids with the same dad, 1 has moved out now). We have a house larger than our requirements, and the mortgage ends next year and it looks like we'll be moving out.
My mum is under a lot of stress, and I've tried to move away from that by being the most organised in the house. She claims as much as I think she can, but I'm just wondering whether there is anything else to support her that I can find for her? She does a few hours of volunteering a week, a couple of hours paid work, but is still worse off since the government brought in the 16 hour rule. For a number of reasons she wouldn't be able to work up to this.
There are things that need work on the house, the bathroom is beyond repair and being a student I shouldn't be responsible for the up keep of the house, although I try to do as much as I can without spending money.
Any advice would be useful, I don't know the system well enough to be able to do it all myself.

Are you in education and if so what kind?
What does she currently claim?
You may want to use a calculator such as entitledto or turn2us
Well 2 children in education and I know she gets money from that, she has money put towards council tax and the mortgage (I believe), working tax credits. Anything else I wouldn't be sure on0 -
She should not be getting working tax credits, do you mean child tax credits? Is there a reason she cannot work, is she disabled?0

The OP has already said that his mum cannot work 16 hours per week.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.
