Renting and buildings insurance

I am now renting from my buyers but curious to know who is responsible for the buildings insurance? I have not previously rented a property and this question suddenly popped into my head!

I've not rented before but logically it should be down to the owners of the property to insure buildings, after all, you dont need a £100,000 payout to rebuild if the house falls down and youre renting it.

Many thanks. I will now have a word with my insurers since I have only recently renewed my policy.

Thankyou again, I have phoned my insurers who have confirmed I do not need buildings insurance and they are giving me a £96 refund. It all helps!
