Potato salad with tinned potatoes

Well I'm converted. A lot quicker and less effort than normal potato salad. Used some garlic in it and it's lovely so thanks for all of the advice. Now I'm going to stock up on tinned potatoes. Hmmm OH said he didn't like it as much and he much prefers it the old way. Think it's because the potatoes aren't salted. Will have to practice with tinned potatoes and see if I can convert him as it's so much easier.0

Thanks for the thread, I'm going to try using them for a potato salad now.
I buy Aldi's tinned potatoes (14p a tin IIRC) as the firmness is great for frying with a cooked breakfast or putting in a frittata/tortilla.0 -
I've always used tinned potatoes in corned beef hash as they keep some shape rather than totally disintegrating but I do add salt when I add them. I get mine from Tesco's and I think they're 15p a tin at the moment so far cheaper than fresh potatoes.0

Those of you who use tinned spuds, do you heat them up first? Recipes using fresh potatoes say to mix them in the mayo whilst they're still warm as the potatoes then soak up the flavour.
I put some chopped chives and a bit of mustard in my mayo when making potato salad.0 -
Potato salad is about the only thing that I use tinned potatoes for. Use them cold straight from the tin, chop them up alongside an onion and add mayo and seasonings (smoked paprika is nice, as is mint). Nice easy lunch dish when you can't be bothered to cook. Even better after a few hours/overnight, the dressing absorbs really well.
I once had potato salad that was like coronation chicken, with curry spices and sultanas - that was also good.0 -
I used them cold - drained the tin and then ran cold water over them and then chopped.0

I don't heat them up - but I do serve the potato salad at room temperature.
room 512 can I suggest that you season the chopped up potatoes BEFORE adding the mayo etc? that way the salt will season the potato chunks and not just the coating.
and I can tell you that some crispy bacon also adds to the seasoning and ALL the men in the family complain if I haven't added any!0 -

That's what OH suggested earlier so going to make it again tomorrow but put a sprinkle of salt over the potatoes before the other things. We serve it at room temp. Will try the bacon too, that sounds lovely (even though we have had gammon every night this week!).
Thanks for everyone's advice, it's really appreciated.0
