    And breathe...

Before making your original post did you actually ask yourself in what way it would assist the OP in solving their problem?

If not, your post would seem to be a fruitless exercise in smugness and attempted points-scoring, which your subsequent extended attack on me seems to confirm.

If not, your post would seem to be a fruitless exercise in smugness and attempted points-scoring, which your subsequent extended attack on me seems to confirm.

I would point out that my second posting was a reply to an unprovoked attack launched by you upon me (and applauded by kwikbreaks). You merely reaped what you sowed in an ill-considered and poorly executed attempt to humiliate me. Don’t dish out what you can’t take yourself. Particularly if you lack the ability to dispense it with validity and proficiency.

What, with your limited intellect and focus, you still fail to grasp is that Martin Lewis set up the MSE forum to foster his philosophy of enabling and assisting people to help themselves, and each other, by sharing knowledge generally – not to spoon-feed individual people with individual problems.

If the sole object of one’s educational philanthropy was to assist only the OP, one might as well simply send the solution to the OP in a PM. The purpose of a forum is to share information broadly and universally.

I have pointed out already, but you do not appear to be capable of taking it on board, that I refrained deliberately from entering the fray on this topic until after the OP had reported that a Windows solution to the OP’s satisfaction had been found. I am in no way expert with Windows (which I dislike and use as seldom as possible) so I was anxious not to interfere in the process of other people providing the OP with a Windows-based means of achieving the OP’s objective.

Only when the OP had announced the success, and the means used to achieve it using Windows, did I then broaden the knowledge base to add how to perform the same task under another operating system.

Most people, if not you, when confronted with a problem that is proving troublesome to solve will perform a search on MSE for the subject involved.

Why should anyone who doesn’t use Windows but wants to know how to perform batch renaming of files under other another operating system be denied anything except a Windows solution when they perform a search on MSE with the keywords “file renaming” simply because John Gray and a Kiwit prefer to use Windows and you regard anything else as “fruitless”?

I’ve made my point and I posted it. I feel no purpose will be served in debating it further with somebody who prefers to remain blind to the merits of any operating system other than Windows. My posting was made for the benefit of those faced with the same problem as the OP but who use Macs instead. Who are you to deny them that? Why should they be deprived of knowledge because of John Gray’s (and others’) prejudices?

This is a forum open to all, for the benefit of all – not just Windows users.

    TLDR;

Looks to me like somebody has their head stuck firmly where the sun don't shine. Makes a pointless post and then goes into a long winded diatribe when pulled up on it.

    It would.

Those with their head stuck firmly where the sun doesn’t shine are those who, because of the limited perspective from which they can see the world in that position, regard assisting anyone other than Windows users as “pointless”.

(It probably also explains why they don’t know where to put the semi-colon in TL;DR)

Frankly, I'm surprised that you even read enough of it to perceive your own user name in it; you normally manifest an attention span of no more than two brief paragraphs. Have you ever read a book?

You fly like a kiwi, kwikbreaks.

    Children, children ;)

There are a million and one easy ways to do this in Windows, OSX, and every other operating system.

Personally, I use Renamer but there's all kind of options.

Gratis - you're narrowminded for not suggesting how to do this in Debian. :p

TLDR, but I've found http://file-folder-ren.sourceforge.net/ to be good with the added bonus of being free, open source and available on the 3 major OS'.
