Scottish power default

I moved out of my previous property in 2011 and the company who did the checkout confirmed that they will send the last meter readings (gas & electricity) and my forwarding address to Scottish power. They failed to do so and last year when I checked my credit report, I realised that scottish power put a default on my file for an outstanding bill of £430 and a gone away flag for not providing a forwarding address. I never received the final bill or default notice so I was not aware of the outstanding amount. After explaining the situation to scottish power, they removed the gone away flag but not the default.

Do you think I can complain to scottish power/ ombudsman to have the default removed? It was probably my responsibility to give them a forwarding address, but I paid £150 for this checkout service and I thought it will be done as promised.

Have you paid the £430 outstanding?


As you say it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure bills are paid.


You have a grievance against the company who did the checkout, and you should seek redress from that company, if necessary in the Small Claims court.

You already asked this in another thread and were advised the responsibility to notify remains with you. The default is correct as there is no defence in relying on a third party.
