Hi there....I have a 2L 03 Automatic Mondeo, I had noticed before I took it in for a Service a slight misfire which was only apparent on idle and just seemed like a little "blip" every minute or so.

Had Service done yesterday and noticed problem was much worse than before & car seemed hesitant pulling away from stationery. This morn the car is still the same & yellow engine warning light has come on, which has never happened before. It seems to drive ok once running but very hesitant from standing or at slow speeds.

Could anyone advise on what it is likely to be and could it be possible that something has been disturbed during the service to make this problem worse? Spark Plugs, & Fuel & oil filters were replaced at service.

Many Thanks - Avenue

Sounds like the lambda sensors , they control the air mix to the engine and will make it misfire

My old car did the same thing , misfire once in a while and then the engine management light came on

May not get picked up on the engine diagnostics

Thanks for that, is that an expensive thing, could you say what it cost to fix?

Please have the codes read before you start throwing in expensive parts. Your description could cover anything from an air leak, MAF, CTS to wrong plugs (and a lot in between!)

Ive dropped car back at Garage now, but they are waiting for Auto diagnostics guy to come & look at it as they don't have the equipment. I'm not mechanically minded I'm afraid, what are MAF & CTS?

I'm concerned you have dropped the car off at such a backward garage that doesn't even have the diagnostic basics to check out a Ford. Your now going to get hit with a bill to cover the garages hoist time plus the diagnostician, before they even start fixing it.
Isn't there a garage handy for you that you can check out with friends and family that will be in a better position to actually look after you and your car?

Having just looked, I'm not aware of any Independent garage local to me that has the diagnostic equipment only a Ford Main Dealer, who I thought would probably be expensive. There are a couple 6 or 7 miles away in another town, but I've no knowledge if they are reliable or not. I've always had good service from this garage for basic mechanical stuff over the years, with previous vehicles, but didn't need anything like this doing & wasn't aware they couldn't until I dropped it off, but as they've always been fair with me in the past I left it with them.

They dont have the equipment? A £10 or £20 code reader is all thats required.

Got it fixed today thankfully! It was Coil Pack & HT Leads!

New Coil pack, leads & Diagnostics came to £107 which hopefully isn't to bad!
