Changing address on licence.

Hope this is the right place for this.
We're moving house shortly so I looked up on the Gov site about getting my address changed on my driving licence - they say they require a valid passport? Which costs £72. I don't have money to spare now. I'm quite angry that they should require this when the licence itself is a valid form of ID - I don't even have the money to go on holiday for the forseeable future so I resent having to get a passport for no good reason.
Is there any way around this? How long do I have after moving to get it done?
Thanks in advance.

You have to do it immediately, though failing to do it is not an offence which sees many prosecutions and it's unlikely that you'd get into trouble unless you were very tardy.
No need for a passport. If you have a photocard licence you just complete the "changes" section on the back of he counterpart and bung both parts in the post to the DVLA. If you still have an old paper only licence then bad luck - you need to apply for a photocard licence with a form you can download or get from the post office, and pay a £20 fee.

Or do it online:

It's a bit of a kerfuffle getting registered initially but once you are it's really handy. You fill in your details, they send you the new one, you send the old one back in the post.0 -

Doing it by post, the forms of ID accepted are at https://www.gov.uk/id-for-driving-licenceThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
