How do you calculate £2.50 a month for Halifax? I make it £1.25 only.

That's my dodgy maths. You are correct with the numbers - but the premise of my post is still right.

Some of us are actually old enough to remember a time when income tax was 33% (back in 1979).

I'm not that old ... will have to rely on the poor maths excuse...
  • 2 Questions about the 1st account...

    1. Will the information to start/activate Internet/Telephone Banking arrive in the post or do you have to initiate yourself via a phone call? I ask because stuff has arrived in the post but no internet banking info yet.

    2. The £1,000 that you have to debit into the account, is it within a calendar month or within 30 days of account opening? ie do i need to put it in before April 31st or before 14th May (month anniversary of account opening)?

    Thanks

Both your questions are answered on their website; the first in their "Give me the facts" article, and the second in your account T&Cs (condition 1.1.2).
  • Thanks for the info, i have activated the telephone/internet banking.

    One last question...

I have already opened my First Direct 1st account and want to start the switch process but i can't see where to do this without going through the whole rigmarole of opening another account from scratch.

Is there a link to switching once your account is already open and active?

Call them, they will take your instructions over the phone. They are mainly a telephone bank.
