Unauthorised Transaction

in Credit cards
Hi all
Anybody out there had this problem.. back in February I had a couple of unknown transactions made on my card so Tesco decided to cancel it therefore the card and account were ended and a new card complete with different account number were received.
My question is this: Ive had a recurring annual payment taken and it was taken in march using the old account number surely this cannot be right.?
I called Tesco tonight and was informed that they could do that because it was a recurring annual payment I said that surely this was wrong as it was a different account number they had used. Thing is I don't need this insurance because I found it cheaper elsewhere.
Any advice on this would be cool.
Thanx

Changing your card details does not stop a recurring payment in most instances:

If you are not authorising the transaction you need to ask/tell your card issuer to stop and refund the amount concerned.
You will also need to tell the company concerned you no longer require their services also.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

You should have contacted the company and cancelled it then. You still can try asking them for a refund.I called Tesco tonight and was informed that they could do that because it was a recurring annual payment I said that surely this was wrong as it was a different account number they had used. MSE article: Beware continuous payment authorities
I think present perfect tense would be more appropriate in this case than present continuous. If you are not authorising the transaction you need to ask/tell your card issuer to stop and refund the amount concerned.0 -
I had a new debit card sent because of suspicious account activity picked up by the Halifax.
When i phoned the RAC to haggle on the breakdown price i said i have a new card so need to setup a new payment. Except they already had the new card details.
Saved me having to set it up again. But shows you need to make sure you cancel these things properly if you want them to stop taking money.
Send cancellation letters recorded delivery and record phone calls if you cancel by phone. Maybe send a letter also?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
recurring payments can be a problem, but the onus is on the customer to cancel them.
it sounds as though Tesco have handled things well. i assume the unknown transactions were credited to your account by Tesco.0 -
A lot of dodgy companies keep taking payments regardless and a lot of them are not contactable. I hope in OP's case, the insurance firm is reputable and will see a stop it.0

If the company isn't contactable, a CPA can be cancelled in the bank nowadays: How do I cancel a recurring payment?0
