Best car to buy for £4000

Hi. As the title says looking at spending £4000 on a car. Need a decent size boot for regular camping trips within the uk. I have a son but don't want anything like a people carrier. Thanks in advance for any recommendations

You can't go wrong with things like Mondeo Estate / Skoda Octavia estate. Of course, you don't need to spend anywhere near £4k to get any of these :)

You'll have another 20 people recommend the Octavia and Mondeo estates. I'd chuck the Accord estate on there too, incredible diesel engine.

however what is the car doing the rest of the year you'r not on camping trips? do you need a diesel? do you need a car as big as this? Is it just you and your son?

say it were the 2 of you, and minimal mileage the rest of the year, my missus has a Honda Jazz and it is cavernous inside. The magic seats are incredible (either fold flat into the floor, or the base of the seat folds up leaves a huge gap in the rear footwell).
