Something I learned in my younger & poorer years was when I was pretty flush with money, I'd hide away 1 or 2 £10 notes. Of course I knew where they were & sometimes they would stay there for many months before I needed to use one of them, but when I was short of cash, it was like winning the lottery to go to one of my hiding places & find that I did still have a nice brown note sitting there.

Another tip to try to help you out if you're running short of money & can't borrow from anybody is to start saving some of your loose change in a jar, say 20p pieces. They soon mount up & a handful of your stash can often help you out whenever you're stuck for cash.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Why don't you set up an account with another bank and transfer an amount to the account each payday? it could only be £10 or £20 but as it would be in another account you wouldn't see it when you log in to your usual bank - it will soon build up and it gets quite addictive putting any spare cash in there, even if it's just £1 or so.

At the end of every day open you're wallet and put all your coppers in a jar.

You will be amazed how quickly it builds up and the penny jar has dug me out of a hole quite a few times in the past! I used to occasionally put the odd 5p in as well.

Consider one as they can be a real lifeline for amounts under a tenner!

I clear spare coins out every couple of days. Was a real lifesaver recently when I lost my debit card and then the bank sent me the wrong one as a replacement so I was a week without access to the money in my account but I did have about £40 in coins in the house
