    OH is about to put an offer in on a house that has a tree outside the front.
    It's about 4/5 metres from the house. Think we have been told its a Cherry tree and might have a TPO though.

    The effect on teh soil in that area shouldn't be significant, though I haven't got a map handy to check to be absolutely certain.

    It's normally advisable to leave the tree well alone, taking it down may well lead to more problems than leaving it alone. The best thing normally is to keep as is, ideally trimming it every coupe, of years to stop it getting any larger.
