Carbon Monoxide Detector Sales Help

My mum got a phone call last week from what she thought was British Gas. The person told her their records told them that she had to replace her carbon monoxide detectors. She didn't think this was correct as she has battery operated ones but they insisted and she said 'okay, send me an invoice'. She assumed British Gas would send her a bill but she's actually got an invoice that looks a bit dodgy and it doesn't appear to be affiliated with British Gas at all. Is there any way of checking a company or person out?

I am awaiting a reply from British Gas too. I mean they did send a detector but I want to check if it is safe to pay and is it a legit detector and why are they saying they are British Gas?Thanks for any help

If it looks like a fish, smells like a fish chances are it is fishy. CO detectors do only last 5-10 years, depending on the model, but they let you know when they are failing. When this happens they need replacing and Amazon sell dozens of different types.
  • I have the exact same model. Back in the day, British Gas used to carry them now they appear to have outsourced them

DON'T let British Gas or their sub-contrators replace it. Get down to B&Q or better, your local independent hardware shop, and you'll get the exact same model BG uses for about half the price.

I was stung for this a few years ago when, during my annual boiler service, the BG engineer "helpfully" pointed out I didn't have a CO detector, so I thought yes, good idea, put one in for me. That'll be £39.99 thanks. £19.99 for exactly the same model at B&Q.

Tell them you don't want it and they have to collect it, or if you did order it, send it back to them.
