Windows 8 with new HDD

Hi,

My Hard Drive recently crashed on the weekend. It was completely out of the blue, but luckily I had everything backed up.

Or, at least I thought I did! I thought I had backed up Windows 8 to a memory stick. However when I replaced the HDD I couldn't install Windows 8, as it said it couldn't find the partition (Of course not! It's a new hard drive!). Stupid Microsoft not helping people whose HDDs fail.

I am currently using Ubuntu, but I am not really a fan, and my computer is running very hot.

How can I install Windows 8? I have my product key, and I am sure my BIOS has Windows 8 info.

However, I have looked and Microsoft just won't let you download Windows 8, unless you already have Windows 8 on your PC.

Thanks :money:

Microsoft have made it hard , can you locate a copy of win 7 and quickly load it? then go to http://www.redmondpie.com/download-windows-8-iso-x86-x64-file-directly-from-microsoft/ and d/load win 8,

you MUST be using a Microsoft machine to do this

there is a "fix" somewhere that allows you to save it , rather than run it , I will contine looking

Hey, so does that mean I can use a Windows 7 machine at work to download Windows 8, and create the ISO?
Then just install it on a PC from a USB?

Edit!- You responded with the answer when I was writing this! haha. Thanks :)

yes , take your win 8 serial number to work , also a blank dvd or a pendrive , and burn the iso to a pendrive or dvd , you have to run the first file , this checks that the machine is able to accept win 8 , and d/loads it to your win 7 machine (3 gig) then offers dvd or pendrive , remove the files from work machine after
