Changing registered keeper between wife and husband

Hello,

My wife is down as the registered keeper on the V5C certificate, for a car I'm now the main driver of (BMW). We recently bought a new car (Nissan), which my wife is also down as the registered keeper.

Is there any point in changing the BMW registered keeper to me ? All I can see it that it would add another 1 onto the number of previous keepers.

Thanks

Husband and wife is not an issue with 99% of insurers. Just make sure you correctly identify the legal owner and registered keeper on the insurance quotes.

Parent and Child, unrelated individuals, financiers/ company cars etc can have issues

I agree - no point whatsoever in changing Registered Keeper.
  • I now have the wifes old car, she's now got mines so we just got the V5C's changed.

I have no idea what happens when you say "No, I'm not the registered keeper" to the insurer.

But I'm also not fussed about adding an owner either.

Tell them its your wifes. Unless your divorced they'll consider it the same.(its 50% yours anyway-unless you have a prenup?)

Owner and keeper are different things. Whilst you could argue a 50/50 ownership legally there can only be one keeper

You used to be able to register in joint names, which made much more sense for couples, but presumably they want one person to be able to issue tickets and points to?

These folk managed to register their car in two names... and when they ignored the NIP it just meant they both got convicted.

I have never had a problem with this as my better half is the registered keeper of both of our cars and i am the main driver of one of them. Noone has ever questioned this. Don't see the need to change it
