PICANOVA Canvas

Options
The canvas sent to me is awful. At least 50% is black. Following complaints they replied:

"Please note that the application of paint on the canvas prints is higher than i.e. on photo paper. This means that through the structure of the canvas more colour has to be applied to guarantee reasonable ink coverage. Inevitably some details, especially in dark areas, will be lost. Also the application of paint is additionally higher to ensure a much better brilliance of colours. Corresponding information on this can be found on our website in our FAQs.

We are therefore unable to accept this as grounds for complaint."

There is nothing on their FAQ's to suggest that small detail will be lost especially in dark areas.

There are product specific FAQs, albeit not immediately obvious http://www.picanova.co.uk/faq-p1/#faq4.

This does state that "This makes it unavoidable that some details, particular in darker areas, are lost."
  • I have had this problem too... for me it was too significant to warrant another order, the background was almost completely lost ruining the effect. As an experienced wedding photographer I run a fully calibrated system.
  • Yes, the information is on the FAQ if you can find them. It took 3 emails from Picanova as they are not at the top level and it is not obvious you are not at the correct level, on the product specific FAQ.

Quotes from from the front of the web page:
"Due to the high levels of white in our artists' linen canvas, the colours of your original image are reproduced exactly. Another huge advantage is the brilliance of the colours. "

"The printing results are stunningly brillant in every detail."

"The natural colour and a contrast-rich image of the photo on canvas are guaranteed by using the latest technology. The high white balance of the canvas strengthens the colour effect and ensures a sharp print."

This is very different from 3 levels down FAQ:
"Due to the structure of the linen, more colour must therefore be applied in order to guarantee reasonable ink coverage. This makes it unavoidable that some details, particular in darker areas, are lost."

Initially they offered a 30% discount voucher off my next order and on the same day from their automated marketing promotions I received a 60% off my next order.

I have in fact just received another canvas. There is slightly more detail, they did check the order before sending. My friends are impressed so it has gone on the wall.

It would be very good if Picanova changed their web page so that:
    1. There is NOT any conflicting information or a NOTE/reference takes you to the FAQ regarding dark areas.
    2. That information is easier to find. (Top level)
    3. The level you are on in FAQs is better defined. i.e the red finger banner on the left moves down to show where you are.

It takes time to learn where you are on a web page and understand if you are looking at all the information available or not. I do not want to be spending hours checking every link every time I order a product on line.

Gees they know how to charge. I use the facilities at a local Uni to print onto canvas, they only charge for the fabric and the inks.
