Very worried about my free loft insulation.
A man came to my door a few weeks ago offering free loft insulation. (I live on the Wirral). He went on and on, saying my neighbours were getting it etc and in the end I agreed to have it. Another man had a look in my loft, then a while later a firm came and took away the old insulation and two days later another firm came and put in the new insulation. All the way through the process I was assured it was completely free of charge.
Anyway, on Friday just gone I had a phone call asking me if the men had come on time etc and then the lady asked me if I had already had loft insulation before the new insulation was installed as I would need to pay if this were the case. I said that I had had some, but that some men had removed it two days before the new insulation was fitted. The call ended. Now I am all in a state incase I suddenly get a bill for the insulation. I would not have had the new insulation installed if a. the man who first called had not been so persistent and b. if someone had said it might not be free.
Are they going to blame me, saying that I should have known about the old insulation, and maybe accuse me even of trying to cheat them? I moved here in 2003 and didn't have a clue as to whether or not I already had insulation. And why did noone mention any of this at the start?
Help, I am worried sick.

Which company approached you, which company did the work and who was the phone call from. There are legit companies doing these things but I suppose it would be very easy to run a scam along the lines you have said.0

When i put more insulation in my loft i never took the old stuff away, i'm sure they could have just topped it up.
I think you should phone Wirral Council and see what their trading standards have to say about this, sounds like a scam.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Thank you all for your replies. I phoned Wirral council as SailorSam suggested and gave them the phone number of last Friday's caller and they called the company who then called me and explained that the lady who spoke to me last Friday should have said that my old insulation was under a certain depth/thickness and that I qualified for the new free insulation because of this. So things are ok. Thank you all again for taking the time to help out.0

No, everything was above board. It was just that the lady on the phone last Friday didn't explain to me properly and I started to worry unnecessarily. Now that I have spoken to the company, I understand that it was a misunderstanding.0
