How many portions of fruit and veg do you eat a day?

Think this would be the right place to post.
Just wondering how many portions of fruit and vegetables others usually eat each day?
I've made a conscious effort lately to eat more, nothing to do with recommendations, but just to try and increase the amount of good food in our diet and use it to replace the not so good. We have 5-7 per day each I would say. No chance would we manage on a budget without Aldi's prices though!

For economical reasons I have meat 3/4 days a week so maybe 4/5 portions of veg/fruit, the other 4/3 days I eat vegetarian so about 7/8 portions.
Always have prunes/banana/dried apricots or raisins on breakfast cereal or porridge plus veg omelette/casserole/curry/salad/whatever takes my fancy at dinner. Snacks tend to be carrot batons, celery or melon.
I don't understand why people find veg boring, just eat the ones they like! There are only about 5 main meats yet endless veg and ways of cooking them.
Agree about Aldi, I shop there once a week or so and the local sm (Mr M) one evening a week just before closing to get the ys offers.0 -
Generally I eat:
Dried fruit on my breakfast cereal.
Before lunch I snack on one banana and an apple, or other fruit.
Lunch, I will have a cucumber or a tomato in my sandwich or, if eating left over from previous night's dinner , I would have vegetables in it ( beef stew with cooked veg or a sausage casserole.)
Mid afternoon, I normally eat more fruit ( whatever I've packed.)
Dinner would be whatever I'm cooking accompanied by more vegetables ( broccoli, carrots, peas, beans etc...)
If I get peckish in the evening, I normally snack on yogurt with either dried or fresh fruit added to it.
Whilst I love dried fruit, due to the high fibre content, I tend to go easy on it, otherwise I get very uncomfortable.
Most of my fruit and veg are bought while in season or when reduced at the end of the day. This means variety and less chance of me getting bored with it.Everything in my life is a reflection of who I am-as within, so without.0 -
I'm an apple addict & eat at least 7 each day & also one or two oranges each day & a banana. I also tuck into other fruit that I might fancy from time to time, such as grapes & pears. Gala apples are my favourites. I'm not a big lover of vegetables, so they don't really feature a lot in my diet other than summer time when I enjoy eating salads.
I buy most of my fruit & salad stuff from Lidl or sometimes from a market stall I occasionally visit in the next town. I couldn't afford Sainsbury's prices & when I have had apples or oranges from there it has often been a let down taste wise. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I am ashamed to say I probably only have 2 or maybe 3 portions of veg a day. I'm really not keen on fruit to be honest,I do love salad and veg tho. I find it hard to incorporate 5 portions a day into my meals. Any ideas would be welcome0

Happydays, how do you manage to fit so much veg in? I'd love to have 10 portions a day + fruit!
Vodka chick, try swapping accompaniments for veg. Like coleslaw (onion/cabbage/carrot, mayo) instead of chips. Might be worth trying some different fruit to see if there's anything you could snack on, some exotic ones get hidden away at the supermarkets and lots of people never get to try them.0 -
At least 5, sometimes more of I've cooked spag Bol or a veggie dish like veggie fried rice.
We have fruit with breakfast, some sort of salad/tomatoes cucumber with lunch. Or a homemade soup with veg in.
A fruit snack apple/banana.
Then usually 2 portions of veg or beans/pulses(sometimes 3 or 4)with dinnerI'm C, Mummy to DS 29/11/2010 and DD 02/11/2013

I used to eat at least 5 pieces of fruit every day but my doctor advised me to swap most of these for portions of veg as he had just told me that I am pre-diabetic! It seems that you are damned if you don't but are still damned if you DO eat your 5+ per day!
I don't add sugar to anything and although I like chocolate, I am not a huge fan of sweets as such. Luckily, I love veg too but for the 1st 2 months after changing what I eat, I felt dreadful! I guess that I was a sugar addict, even though my source of sugar was completely natural... I have to go back for more blood tests next month, so hopefully my results will be healthier!
